  • View Cafe: Hinze Dam

The Hinze Dam is a rock and earth-fill embankment dam with an un-gated spillway across the Nerang River in the Gold Coast hinterland of South East, Queensland, Australia. The main purpose of the dam is for potable water supply of the Gold Coast region. The impounded reservoir is called Advancetown Lake. The earthfill dam structure is 108 metres high and 1,850 metres long. The 4,261-thousand-cubic-metre dam wall holds back the 310,730-megalitre reservoir when at full capacity. From a catchment area of 207 square kilometres that includes the Numinbah Valley and Springbrook Plateau, with most being contained within state forests and national parks, the dam creates Advancetown Lake, with a surface area of 1,500 hectares.

We will be visiting the Hinze Dam and partaking of lunch (at members’ expense) at the View Café, 100-200 Advancetown Rd, Advancetown, [Gold Coast Map 46 J5] located at the western end of the spillway.  We have booked the function room for the club.  This room can hold maximum 50 people during Covid restrictions.  RSVP’s will be essential to secure a place in the function room.

There is more seating available in the general café area as well as plenty of parkland for a picnic if anyone does not wish to eat at the café.  BYO table and chairs are necessary if anyone chooses to picnic.

We have chosen a Saturday for this run as the location is extremely popular and very crowded on Sundays.
